Meet Your Coach

AJ Smith is the founder and head coach of Smith’s Fitness, a no-nonsense gym built on practical, effective training for everyone—from kids and rehab clients to world champions. With a strong background in strength & conditioning, rehabilitation, and performance training, AJ has helped countless athletes and everyday lifters get stronger, move better, and perform at their best.
AJ’s journey in the gym started through rugby, a sport that took him to England, where he played at a semi-professional level. Since then, he’s tested himself across powerlifting, obstacle course racing (OCR), adventure racing, and numerous ultra-marathons, building a wealth of real-world experience in strength, endurance, and performance.
Academically, AJ is an ESSA-accredited Exercise Physiologist and an ASCA Level 2 Strength & Conditioning Coach, having completed his undergraduate studies at UWA before earning his Master’s Degree in Strength & Conditioning at ECU. His coaching philosophy is straightforward and results-driven, focusing on progressive strength training, injury prevention, and long-term performance.
